Ho 1:1-3. Hosea, to shew God’s judgment for spiritual whoredom, takes Gomer,
Ho 1:4-5. and has by her Jezreel;
Ho 1:6-7. Loruhamah;
Ho 1:8-9. and Lo-ammi.
Ho 1:10-11. The restoration of Judah and Israel under one head.
Hosea chapter 2
Ho 2:1-5. The idolatry of the people.
Ho 2:6-13. God’s judgments against them.
Ho 2:14-23. His promises of reconciliation with them.
Hosea chapter 3
Ho 3:1-3. The Lord’s intended future kindness to Israel, not withstanding their wickedness, illustrated by the emblem of Hosea’s conduct towards his adulterous wife.
Ho 3:4-5. The desolation of Israel before their restoration.
Hosea chapter 4
Ho 4:1-11. God denounces judgments on Israel, for their aggravated impieties and iniquities.
Ho 4:12-14. He exposes the ignorance and wickedness of the priests, and profligacy of the people, he will leave their wives and daughters to commit lewdness, without present punishment.
Ho 4:15-19. He warns Judah, not to imitate Israel’s crimes, which are still further reproved.
Hosea chapter 5
Ho 5:1-14. The judgments of God are denounced against the priests, people, and princes, both of Israel and Judah, for their manifold sins.
Ho 5:15. An intimation is given of mercy on their repentance.
Hosea chapter 6
Ho 6:1-3. Exhortations to repent and hope in God.
Ho 6:4. A lamentation over those who had sinned after conviction.
Ho 6:5-11. Reproofs of obstinate sinners, and threatenings against them.
Hosea chapter 7
Ho 7:1-10. A reproof of manifold sins.
Ho 7:11-16. God’s wrath against them for their hypocrisy.
Hosea chapter 8
Ho 8:1-14. Destruction is threatened both to Israel and Judah for their impiety and idolatry.
Hosea chapter 9
Ho 9:1-17. The distress and captivity of Israel for their sins.
Hosea chapter 10
Ho 10:1-15. Israel is reproved and threatened for their impiety and idolatry, and exhorted to repentance.
Hosea chapter 11
Ho 11:1-4. The ingratitude of Israel unto God for his benefits.
Ho 11:5-7. His judgment.
Ho 11:8-11. God’s mercy toward them.
Ho 11:12. Israel’s falsehood and Judah’s fidelity.
Hosea chapter 12
Ho 12:1-2. A reproof of Ephraim, Judah, and Jacob.
Ho 12:3-6. By former favours he exhorts to repentance.
Ho 12:7-14. Ephraim’s sins provoke God.
Hosea chapter 13
Ho 13:1-3. Ephraim’s glory vanishes.
Ho 13:4-8. God’s anger.
Ho 13:9-14. God’s mercy.
Ho 13:15-16. The judgment of Samaria.
Hosea chapter 14
Ho 14:1-3. An exhortation to repentance.
Ho 14:4-9. A promise of God’s blessing.
